Though multi-instrumentalist Herb Partlow’s latest super-sophisticated, cosmopolitan minded single “City Lights” fits perfectly in the Smooth Jazz genre, it’s cool cinematic aesthetic, seductive sense of atmosphere, breezy rhythms and dazzling interplay between piano and trumpet could also be thought of as Nu Jazz, fusion or cool jazz – all part of the artist’s vision to create “jazz music for a new generation.” The track is a laid back, impressionistic portrait of a multi-faceted modern metropolis where ambitious energy bubbles beneath a serene night skyline. It features Partlow’s splendid keyboards, piano, bass and drums intertwined with textured brass and both bright and muted trumpet lines.
